The specification sheet that ships with a quotation carries the coil distance, the input range and the temperature at which the build derates. Those three numbers decide the retail claims.
What 15W actually delivers
Qi2 caps the magnetic profile at 15W, and a phone takes that 15W only while its battery and its thermal headroom allow it. In practice a phone at 40 percent draws the full rate for a while, then steps down. The useful claim is not 15W all the way to full, it is 15W at the start.
That is also why charging time claims should name the phone and the starting percentage. A charger that reaches 50 percent in 30 minutes on one model can take 40 minutes on another with the same coil.
Cases, rings and alignment
The ring holds the phone coil over the charger coil, which is where the efficiency comes from. A thin case passes the field. A wallet case, a metal plate or a thick rugged case does not, and the charger either derates or refuses to start.
- The case thickness the ring is rated to hold through.
- Whether a magnetic plate is part of the case, and whether the charger tolerates it.
- The phone size the housing supports without the top edge lifting.
When 25W is worth it
Only when the phone list supports Qi2.2 and the retail price can carry the extra power stage and the thermal design. For a mixed fleet, or for a product where the charger is an accessory rather than the hero, 15W is the lower risk build and the easier certification.
