Magnetic power banks

Magnetic power bank: 5000 mAh and 10000 mAh builds

A Qi2 pack that snaps to the back of a phone. Two capacities, one wireless profile, and a retail decision that is about thickness and charges per pack rather than about the cell inside.

The two capacities

Nameplate milliamps are not delivered milliamps. The numbers below are the ones to quote to a buyer.

10000 mAh37 WhAbout two phone chargesBag or jacketOnline, electronics retail

Both sizes are under the 100 Wh cabin limit that airlines apply to power banks, so neither needs an operator approval to fly. The 10000 mAh pack is 37 Wh, which is the number to print on the label.

Nameplate against usable capacity

A wireless pack loses energy twice: once converting the cell voltage, once in the coil. A 5000 mAh pack typically delivers around 60 to 70 percent of its nameplate to the phone, so plan on roughly 3000 to 3500 mAh arriving at the battery.

That is not a defect. It is why a 10000 mAh pack is sold as two charges rather than as 10000 mAh of phone battery, and why a brand that prints a charge count on the box should measure it on the phone its buyer actually uses.

What a retail buyer asks

Four questions that decide whether a pack sells at the shelf.

  • How many charges: one or two, measured on a real phone, not calculated from the cell.
  • How thick: a 10000 mAh pack is visibly thicker, and the buyer notices before the specification does.
  • What is on the label: watt hours, wireless output and the Qi2 profile. Customs and airlines read these.
  • What is in the box: cable, pouch or nothing. The accessory is often the margin.

A magnetic pack without a ring on the phone side is a flat pack with a magnet. Ask for the magnet array drawing and the holding force test.

Before the order

Three numbers to agree before the cells are ordered.

  • Delivered capacity: the charge count the box will claim, measured on a named phone.
  • Label data: watt hours, wireless output, Qi2 profile, model number.
  • Magnets: holding force, and whether a case is expected between pack and phone.

Phone models, quantities and destination market is enough. The reply is a build, a specification sheet and the certificate list for each line item.
