Clip thickness range is the number that decides the return rate. A clip that covers 15 to 25 mm blades fits most cars; one that covers a single thickness fits a sample rig.
Blade fit
Vents differ by blade thickness, spacing and orientation. A clip with a sprung jaw covers a range and holds a phone on a rough road. A clip with a fixed jaw holds one car.
Ask for the range and the spring force, and test the mount on three vehicles before the tooling is signed off.
Airflow is the reason to choose a vent
A vent mount puts the phone in moving air, which is the cheapest thermal fix in a car. In a hot market that matters more than the wattage: a 15W charger in airflow finishes a charge that a 25W charger on a hot dash abandons.
- Whether the vent can be closed without removing the mount.
- Whether the phone blocks the driver's view of the vent controls.
- The temperature the mount reaches with the heater on.
The installer channel
Accessory shops and installers buy by the carton and ask two questions: does it fit the cars I see, and can I buy the clip separately. A fitting kit list answers both, and it sells more units than a wattage claim.
