Dashboard wireless car charger for retrofit installs
A base on the dash or the glass and a longer arm, for vehicles where the vent is out of reach. The heat is the design problem, and the adhesive is the return problem.
Specification
What the sheet states for this build, and what is confirmed per order.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Fitting | Adhesive base or suction base |
| Charging | Qi2 15W, magnet ring |
| Arm | Long arm, lockable joint |
| Input | USB-C, rear entry |
| Cable | Quoted with the build |
| Heat | Derating profile on the sheet |
| Testing | Heat soak, adhesive pull, vibration |
| Certification | Per model, Qi2 for the charging coil |
| MOQ | 1,000 pieces per model |
Adhesive performance depends on the dash material and the surface temperature. Ask for the pull test on the materials the target market actually has, not on a steel plate.
Adhesive against suction
A suction base fails on a textured dash and holds on glass. An adhesive base holds on a textured dash and leaves a mark when it is removed. Most retrofit programmes quote both and let the installer choose.
The pull test matters more than the claim. A base rated for 5 kg on glass can hold 2 kg on a soft-touch dash at 60C, and the phone weighs less than either.
Heat, and what to tell the buyer
A dashboard in the sun is the hottest surface in the car. Any charger there derates, and a phone there shows a temperature warning before it charges at full rate. That is physics, not a defect, and the manual should say so in one line.
- The temperature the build derates at, measured on a dash.
- Whether the arm can be angled away from direct sun.
- What the manual says about heat, in the market language.
Fleet and retrofit
Retrofit buyers order by vehicle model and want a fitting note per model. A one-page matrix of dash type, base type and cable route sells the second order, and it costs a day to write.
Before the order
- Base type: adhesive or suction, quoted separately.
- Pull test: on the dash materials of the target market.
- Fitting note: one page per vehicle family, for the installer.
