Car magnetic phone holder: vent and dashboard mounts
A 15W Qi2 charger built into a mount. The electrical part is the easy half; the clip, the arm and the heat in a closed car are what decide whether the phone stays on the dash in July.

Vent or dashboard
One clips to a blade, the other sticks to a surface. They fail in different ways.
The two fittings
The mount is a mechanical product with a charger inside, and the mechanics decide the returns.
| Mount | Fits | Phone size | Heat | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vent clip | A horizontal vent blade | Up to a large phone, if the blade is firm | Cooler, air moves | A weak blade drops the phone and the clip |
| Dashboard | A flat dash or a windscreen | Larger phones, longer arm | Hotter in sun | Adhesive failure, and a phone that shakes |
Ask which vent blade the clip is rated for. A clip that holds on a test rig and drops on a 2019 hatchback vent is the most common return reason in this category.
Heat is the car problem
A dashboard in direct sun reaches temperatures that a phone will not charge through. The charger derates, the phone shows a temperature warning, and the customer reports a broken charger. None of the three is a fault in the electronics.
A vent mount is cooler because air moves over the phone. A dashboard mount is more convenient and hotter. Where the market is hot for most of the year, the vent build is the safer default, and the dashboard build needs a shade or a sun-facing warning in the manual.

What a car programme should test
Four checks that do not appear on a product page.
- Vibration: a mount that holds a phone at rest and lets it rotate on a rough road.
- Heat soak: an hour on a dashboard in the sun, then a charge test.
- Clip life: the spring, not the plastic. Ask for the cycle count.
- Cable: where it enters the housing, and whether it fouls the gear lever.
Car mounts are sold through accessory shops and installers as much as online. The installer cares about the fitting kit and the cable, not the wattage.
Before the order
Three mechanical details that decide the return rate.
- Vent blade type: horizontal, vertical or round, and the thickness the clip accepts.
- Phone size: the largest model the magnet ring holds without rotation.
- Fitting kit: what is in the box, and whether an installer can buy it separately.

Phone models, quantities and destination market is enough. The reply is a build, a specification sheet and the certificate list for each line item.
